Intellectual property and the protection of teaching materials produced by teachers

This paper addresses the importance of intellectual property protection in education, with an emphasis on copyright and the preservation of teaching materials created by teachers. Teacher authorship is essential for learning, through the production of books, handouts, videos, and games. However, many educators are unaware of their rights and do not protect their creations, which facilitates misuse. The study aims to present ways to protect these materials, highlighting Law No. 9,610/98 and official registration as means of guaranteeing authorship and exclusive use of the works. The methodology is bibliographic, based on studies on intellectual property and education. The results indicate that, although the legislation ensures protection, many teachers are unaware of the registration procedures and their rights. Awareness and continuing education are fundamental to protecting works and strengthening the contribution of teachers in the educational process.
