Procedural profile of lawsuits for health care in the State of Pará

To analyse the procedural mechanisms used in the lawsuits brought for access to medicines against the State of Pará (SESPA). This is an exploratory, cross-sectional, empirical study based on the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data extracted from legal proceedings filed from 2011 to 2013. It adopts a specific methodology for analysing and monitoring lawsuits for medicines. The Excel program was used to standardise each of the variables, starting from the data obtained directly from the case files, which were analysed one by one. It was observed that, in relation to legal representation, 44.3% of the cases were initiated by the State Prosecution Service. A certain balance was found between the granting of anticipated relief and injunctions, the former being slightly more representative, about 51.8% of the cases. It was concluded that the results found here serve, although not on their own, to assist in the evaluation of the current state of public health policies in the State of Pará, and may support the updating and reformulation of public health policies and health care management.
