Archiving and Digital Preservation

PIDCC applies digital preservation measures so that published content remains accessible, citable and verifiable in the long term. This page describes what is actually in operation and what is in progress — without announcing memberships that have not yet been completed.

In operation

  • Persistent identifiers (DOI)

    The journal is a Crossref member, prefix 10.16928. 330 of the 356 published works have a registered DOI. The remainder belong to the recovered historical archive and are being assigned.

  • OAI-PMH interoperability

    Metadata is exposed via OAI-PMH in Dublin Core, MARCXML, JATS and RFC1807, allowing harvesting by aggregators and discovery services.

  • LOCKSS and CLOCKSS manifests

    The journal publishes the manifests that authorise harvesting of its content by LOCKSS boxes. This makes the archive available for preservation; it does not by itself amount to being preserved — harvesting depends on the journal joining a network.

  • Backups

    The system and database are backed up before every significant operation on the archive, with previous versions retained.

In progress

Cariniana Network (IBICT). PIDCC is in the process of joining the Cariniana Network, the Brazilian digital preservation network maintained by the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology, built on LOCKSS technology. Once completed, this page will be updated with the date deposits began.

PKP Preservation Network. Membership is planned for when a stable version of the plugin compatible with the journal's Open Journal Systems release becomes available.

Permanence policy

Published works are not removed. Corrections are issued as errata or editorial notes, preserving the original record; retractions, where necessary, keep the text accessible with the corresponding marking. Each article's DOI and URL are permanent.
